Dental cleaning is a critical procedure not only to have an aesthetic smile, but also to maintain tooth and gum health. However, there is a misconception among the public: ‘Once you have a dental scaling, you always have to have it done.’ However, this is not true.
Plaque and tartar accumulated on tooth surfaces over time cannot be completely removed despite brushing and flossing. This can lead to gum diseases and caries. Dental cleaning protects the health of the gums by removing these harmful deposits with professional equipment. However, this does not weaken the teeth or predispose them to further tartar formation. On the contrary, it is a procedure that should be performed regularly (every 6 months) and when neglected, it can lead to gum recession, bleeding and tooth loss in the future.
One of the biggest benefits of dental cleaning is that it prevents gingivitis and eliminates bad breath. In addition, with early diagnosis, caries or other problems can be recognised and intervened without the need for more serious treatments.
In summary, teeth cleaning is not a procedure that should be done once and left, but an oral care routine that should be done regularly. For healthy teeth and strong gums, a dentist check-up every 6 months is a must. Remember, prevention is always easier than treatment.
