Is there really no solution to this? There is!

Tooth loss often leads patients, particularly those suffering from advanced bone loss, to believe that ‘a denture is the only option left’. For many years, this was largely true. However, thanks to recent advances in dentistry, the situation has changed completely.

In the past, sufficient bone volume was a prerequisite for implant treatment. In cases of insufficient bone, either complex surgical procedures were performed—involving the removal of bone from a suitable area of the body under general anaesthesia and grafting it onto the jawbone—or patients were directed towards removable dentures. Nowadays, however, the alternatives are far more robust.

Particularly for patients with severe bone loss, zygoma implants make it possible to achieve fixed teeth by utilising support from different, stronger bones. Similarly, pterigoid implants offer a significant solution for patients lacking bone support in the posterior region. In even more advanced cases, custom-made subperiosteal implants are placed directly on the bone, effectively creating a new foundation.

What does this mean?

Many patients who have long been told, “I have no bone, so implants aren’t possible”, can now achieve fixed teeth thanks to facial scanning technologies, advanced CT imaging and intraoral imaging systems.

Of course, there is no single ‘right’ treatment for every patient. A detailed examination, proper planning and an experienced team are essential to this process. However, one thing is certain: you are no longer without options. A denture is not the only choice. You simply need to find the right one.
