Choosing the right toothbrush is a critical step for oral health. In today’s article, I will explain in 5 points how you can find the most suitable one for you among hundreds of options in the supermarket aisles.
- Brush handle
Brushes with ergonomic and non-slip handles should be preferred. A very thin handle can make control difficult. Angled handles allow easier access to the back teeth. Take care to choose a brush handle that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand.
- Brush head
Small or medium sized brush heads should be preferred. Large heads can make it difficult to reach the back teeth. Especially people with a narrow mouth opening should use brushes with small heads.
- Brush bristles
Soft bristles protect tooth enamel and gums, but may not provide adequate cleaning if brushing time is less than 3 minutes. Hard bristles can be abrasive and can cause gum recession.
- Disposable brushes
Practical for travelling or emergencies, but not suitable for everyday use.
- Regular change
Toothbrushes should be replaced every 3-4 months at most. A brush with deformed bristles cannot clean the teeth sufficiently.
Choosing the right toothbrush is important for healthy teeth and strong gums. You can determine the most suitable option for you by contacting your dentist.
